Va. Gun-related Crimes Drop While Firearm Sales Rise, Stirring Debate

Virginia is experiencing a trend guaranteed to get people talking. The state’s gun-related crime is declining while firearms sales are increasing. According to sales figures obtained by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the state’s firearm sales rose 16 percent in 2012, and during the same time, major crimes committed with firearms dropped 5 percent. Experts are mystified, and unsurprisingly divided along political lines. "It's a quite interesting trend given the current rhetoric about strengthening gun laws and the presumed effect it would have on violent crimes," says Thomas R. Baker of Virginia Commonwealth University. Josh Horwitz, the executive director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, says comparing the two sets of data is meaningless without accounting for background checks on sales.

Its a bunch of scared white people buying guns out of fear that Obama might ban them.
I'd bet that most of those people already own a gun or 10, and most of them are not out to hurt random people.
