3 Dead in Horrific Car Crash

GRIEF-STRICKEN family and friends embraced in heartbreaking scenes at the site where three men died in one of the worst car crashes police have seen.

Loved ones wept as they sifted debris below the tree which the Holden Commodore slammed into, splitting the car in pieces and throwing the V8 engine 20m.

Police say three men, the 43-year-old driver from Morley, and two passengers, aged 31 and 34, died when the car crashed just before midnight on Friday night on Morley Drive.

Insp Ian Clarke described the "frustration" of major crash investigators, who have attended a fatal crash almost every day since the start of the year.

"It could only be described as an horrific crash," Insp Clarke said.

"First we need to extend our condolences to the families of these three men.
"This tragedy will affect hundreds of people and it's unfortunate that some poor decisions made last night have resulted in this terrible tragedy.

"This is the start of February and already we've lost three people. "We had a poor month in January and certainly there is a significant degree of frustration."

Police believe speed, alcohol and drugs may have been factors in the crash.

A close friend of one of the men, who did not want to be named, said the crash had left friends and family devastated.

"Steve was a good guy and a very close friend to a lot of us," he said. "He hasn't been married all that long.

"He was a plasterer, just a hard worker and he had a lot of friends. This is going to affect a lot of people."

Michael Power said he was woken by the sound of the crash about 11.40pm and ran out to help.

"I came out and saw the engine 20m away," Mr Power said.

"It definitely shook me up. I would never speed again after seeing that."

Insp Clarke said the accident was one of the worst investigators had seen and urged drivers to take more care.

The deaths took the state road toll to 25, compared with nine for the same time last year the worst start to a year in five years.

If only we could get the body carnage pics of this accident, fuckin epic ! the good ol' tree trick.

Re: 3 Dead in Horrific Car Crash

What a mess
What's the speed limit for built-up areas in Australia, 50 kilometres per hour? At first glance, it looks like he was driving three times faster to say the least. Thanks god no other people were involved in the crash.

Re: 3 Dead in Horrific Car Crash

"I'll never speed after seeing that!"

People are really this dumb about speed? Oh yes they are!

Where I am from the hoodrats in their cars speed through country lanes. Unluckily for them large vehicles, water or potholes and sharp bends make short work of their supposed skill at the wheel.

I once saw one of them in a tree 15 feet up. How they launched that I dont know.
