You call that justified? Are you kidding me? Apparently none of you have ever been in that situation. The laws are written in favor of black individuals; he can call me every white degrading name in the book at least twice and it doesn't even raise an eyebrow, however I call him one word that is the one word that would be degrading to him and all of a sudden "whitey" goes to jail for a "hate crime".

I've been there. Outside the mall and he called me so many names and wanted to fight over me crossing the street and him speeding through the parking lot. I tell her to move quickly so we don't get hit and he steps out of the car yelling "what you say, cracker?" I wasn't even talking to him and he wouldn't let it go. He was waiting for that magic word so he could call the cops, I wouldn't give it to him. But I knew if I called the cops for a "hate crime" on a mid twenty year old white victim, I'd never even see a police car.

We don't know what happened here. I'll say it was no fair fight though. And some of us here need to brush up on our history and read a few journals and see how things really played out during the times of slavery. We didn't just go around abducting them, they were sold by their own tribes to us because of the crimes they committed against their tribes, they were going to be killed; we said "hey, let us buy them from you." Yes, a few were taken against their will and without doing anything, but the number is far fewer than what they will let you believe.

I'm not a fan of racism but I don't think someone being racist is a good enough excuse to be violent. Although this guy was acting violent and got his just rewards. I only say this as a response to the person videotaping who makes it look like words justify violence.

I agree words are no excuse for violence, but nobody should be surprised if racist words turn to violence. That is just common sense.

If there's such torment and horror associated with the word, why do black people call each other it?

I honestly just think the word should be done away with.

Certainly in this case it was used to wind him up, which I'm sure the white dude regretted afterwards
