A brawl between a mall Easter bunny and customer at Newport Centre Mall started when a young girl slipped out of the photo-op chair after having her picture taken, a Jersey City spokeswoman said this morning.

Just after 5 p.m. yesterday, police were called to the mall on reports of a fight, spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.

A 22-year-old man playing the role of the mall's Easter bunny told police a 1-year-old girl had slipped out of the chair after she had her photo taken with him, Morrill said.

The bunny said the girl's father then began to verbally and physically attack him, Morrill said.

A video posted on Twitter does not show what led up to the altercation, but the bunny can be seen tearing off his fluffy gloves and fighting a man wearing a brown shirt.

Dozens of mall goers can be seen surrounding the area where the fight occurred while multiple security guards worked to separate the father and bunny.

Both the bunny and the father were taken to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health for minor injuries, Morrill said.

Morrill said charges have not yet been filed in the case because detectives are still speaking with witnesses to determine who initiated the attack.

The mall Easter bunnies are employed by the Noerr Programs, a photography company that is a season tenant of the mall. A spokesman said they have three "cast members" that take turns greeting kids.

The man involved in the altercation has not been suspended or fired, but he will not work the final week of the promotion, a company spokesman said.

"The safety of guests and cast members is of utmost importance to the Noerr Programs, which operates and manages the Easter Bunny photo program," the company said in statement. "We will continue to investigate this incident and take appropriate action.

"In the meantime, we are cooperating with the Jersey City Police Department who are leading this investigation and have assigned other employees to fill the role of Bunny."

looks like the mother was there fighting with staff as well. Or is that the daughter? If it is i'm not surprised she slipped out of the chair.. bit of a heffer.

I've not heard the word 'heifer' used in that context in years. It may have to be my word of the week!!

This is the mall I usually go to . My daughter has had her picture taken several times there at that location. We also do Santa pics there every year but the Santa is pretty old and super nice so I'm not too worried about him
