He is probably on a bad path in life after something like this. No recommendation letters and a bad family name means the student will have very hard time obtaining a good job. The teacher shouldn't have hit him, but come on, it's just a little ruler and that couldn't have hurt with all the clothes he had on. It's not worth ruining future prospects to stroke your ego a bit.
