Thailand, A former Thai boxer with a history of mental illness was arrested for punching security guards during a January 1 celebration.

The suspect, 38-year-old Tum, attacked volunteer security guards, leaving one victim, Somchai, with severe head injuries after falling unconscious and hitting the ground.

Three others sustained minor injuries. Tum, arrested at his nearby home, appeared confused and refused to answer police questions. Witnesses reported he displayed uncontrollable strength during the attack.

The incident occurred during a celebration organized by the local community in the area. According to international media reports, the suspect, known as Tum, 38, suddenly acted violently and attacked several visitors during the incident. It is understood that the incident began when Tum, believed to be under the influence of illegal substances, attacked the crowd who were dancing in front of the stage. The situation became increasingly tense when the suspect grabbed a weapon from a volunteer security officer (APO) who tried to stop him.

He then punched several volunteer officers and civilians at the scene before several villagers tried to arrest him. However, Tum managed to escape after the incident when he saw the crowd starting to chase him. Following the incident, police from Phannanikhom Police Station launched an immediate operation and arrested the suspect at his home located not far from the scene of the incident on the same day. Two other victims are being treated at Phannanikhom Hospital, while three others suffered minor injuries. According to local authorities, the police are still investigating and will file preliminary charges for causing bodily harm to others. If the condition of the seriously injured victim shows signs of developing more seriously, additional charges will be filed against the suspect.
