A 26-year-old man, T. Van Q, who had been drinking, got into an altercation with a shuttle bus driver on the street after the bus reportedly pulled over abruptly, causing T. Van Q. to fall off his motorbike.

T. Van Q. later on drove in his white car to the gas station to confront the driver again. A physical fight broke out involving the driver’s son who arrived on a bike who used helmets to attack the bus driver.

Amidst the chaos, T. Van Q. jumped back into his car and deliberately plowed into a crowd of people standing near the fuel pumps.

At least 7 people were injured in the ramming. One victim, a 24-year-old bus station employee, suffered severe multiple injuries, while others sustained minor abrasions.

The vehicle also crashed into office furniture and equipment at the gas station.

T. Van Q. fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by Police. He is currently under emergency detention for disturbing public order while authorities consolidate the case for further prosecution.

Tests showed he had a breath alcohol concentration of 0.238 mg/l but was negative for drugs. The legal limit is 0 mg/l.

In Vietnam, penalties are based on the concentration as at 0.238 mg/l, he will fall into the first tier, which is below 0.25 mg/l but the fines are still heavy.

For motorcyclists that means a fine of VND 2–3 million ($80$120 USD) and license suspension. For motorists that means a fine of VND 6–8 million ($240–$320 USD) and license suspension.
