This audio is from an off-duty officer-involved shooting near 1599 W. Roosevelt Road in Chicago at about 2 a.m. on December 24, 2022.

Off-duty Officer Hodges Smith discharged his firearm after a person stole Officer Smith's Jeep, crashed it into a fire hydrant, and fired multiple gunshots at Officer Smith. The incident was captured on surveillance video.

Officer Smith's firearm discharge was later determined to be within policy. An allegation was served that Officer Smith failed to notify the Office of Emergency Management and Communication that he discharged his weapon.
