Breyon Shon Deese, 16, was shot multiple times and killed behind his family's apartment building in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Aug. 4, 2009, a homicide that remains unsolved.

Officers responding to a shooting call at the Hickory Trails Apartments on Bernau Avenue found Deese lying on the ground behind the building shortly before noon, the Greensboro Police Department said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police records described the shooting as happening on the afternoon of Aug. 4, 2009. The Greensboro News & Record reported at the time that investigators believed it may have been connected to a rivalry among teenagers in the neighborhood, though police did not say publicly where that theory led.

Deese's mother, Kesha McNeil, told WFMY News 2 later that month that no arrest had been made and that she was unemployed and needed help paying for her son's funeral. New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro collected donations on the family's behalf.

Greensboro police list Deese's death among the department's cold case homicides under case number 2009-0804-178, and Crime Stoppers of Greater Greensboro continues to seek information from the public.

Anyone with information has been asked to call Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000. Tips can be submitted anonymously, and a reward of up to $5,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in the case.
