Authorities said Bryan Langford, 38, fatally shot his girlfriend, Cynthia Henderson, 47, and her son, Louis Adams, 26, then barricaded himself in a Volusia County, Florida, home in March 2009 and wounded Orange City police Officer Sherif El-Shami with a .50-caliber rifle.

The day began the morning of March 25, when Bryan Langford's ex-wife, Melissa Langford, called for help from nearby Lake Helen. She told authorities that Langford had shown up at her home in camouflage, acting suicidal, and that he owned numerous guns, according to accounts of the call.

Volusia County deputies and Orange City officers went to check on Langford at his home outside Orange City. El-Shami was struck by shrapnel as he arrived, authorities said. Investigators later found two spent .50-caliber shell casings near the front of the house and believe the rifle was fired at his patrol car.

El-Shami underwent surgery and survived, and the Orange City Police Department later promoted him to detective. A local news report years afterward said he lost his left eye in the attack.

That afternoon, a man was found shot to death inside Dixie's Pub on Howland Boulevard. Sheriff Ben Johnson said the body was that of Adams, who worked at the bar and was the son of Henderson, a co-owner of the pub.

Deputies fired tear gas into the barricaded home shortly before 7 p.m. A pit bull ran out, but no one else emerged, Johnson said. When deputies went inside, they found firearms and ammunition positioned throughout the house, as if Langford had prepared for a gun battle, along with the bodies of a man and a woman.

Authorities said the two were Langford and Henderson. Langford's body had been booby-trapped with an explosive, deputies said. The recording posted with this thread is a 911 call connected to the case.
