Fatal Route 23 Crash Involving Franklin Borough Police Sergeant
At about 10:41 a.m. on May 27, 2024, Franklin Borough Police Sgt. William Grissom was on duty in a marked police vehicle, driving south on Route 23 in Franklin Borough. His vehicle collided with a black Honda Prelude exiting the ShopRite parking lot near Route 23 and Walsh Street. The Honda was crossing Route 23 and emerged from behind vehicles that were in traffic on the northbound side of the road. Sgt. Grissom called in the crash and rendered medical aid to the Honda's occupants. Deanna D'Arco, 19, of the Borough of Sussex, was a front-seat passenger in the Honda and was taken to Morristown Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The Honda's driver and Sgt. Grissom were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Deanna D'Arco was pronounced deceased at 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Watch the video of this incident here.
