Audio is from the March 21, 2024, fatal police shooting near 3800 W. Ferdinand Street in Chicago.

The incident began when five Chicago police officers assigned to an 11th District tactical unit made a traffic stop of Dexter Reed, Jr. for purportedly not wearing a seatbelt. Multiple officers surrounded Reed's vehicle and gave verbal commands. When Reed did not comply, officers pointed their firearms at him.

An exchange of gunfire followed. Reed appears to have fired first, striking an officer in the forearm. Four officers returned fire approximately 96 times over 41 seconds, including after Reed exited the vehicle and fell to the ground.

Reed was struck multiple times, taken to a hospital, and later pronounced deceased. A gun was recovered on the front passenger seat of Reed's vehicle.
