In Jan. 2007 a Vancouver (Wash.) man called to confess killing two persons with a knife. Dylon R. Peterson was arrested by arriving police.

A woman and her son were stabbed to death, and a man who reported the killing was arrested for investigation of first-degree murder, police said.

Dylon R. Peterson, 25, who is believed to have placed a 911 call that led to the discovery of the bodies Sunday morning, was jailed pending a court hearing, police spokeswoman Kimberly Anne Kapp said.

Officers found the bodies of a 45-year-old woman and her 15-year-old son in a yellow duplex near Interstate 5 in the Rose Village neighborhood after receiving the call in which a man said he had stabbed two people, Kapp said.

Peterson was at the scene also and was arrested after being questioned by police.

He listed his address as the same duplex when he was arrested and charged Friday with possession of cocaine, records show. Peterson pleaded innocent in that case and was due back in court later this month.

Police said he knew the mother and son, but that relationship and the motive for the killing remained unclear.

A neighbor, Rick Klages, told KATU Television of Portland, Ore., the killings came as a shock.

"That's not something that happens around here," Klages said. "It's a really quiet place."

However, another neighbor, Rhonda Gordon, told KOIN Television of Portland the area had been troubled by theft and gang violence.
