Looks like the top hinge failed,and luckily for the boys the bottom one held.When the door fell over the bottom hinge twisted and shattered the glass.Thats my guess.

It's tempered, non laminated glass and it did exactly what it is designed to do.

It did start to shatter before it hit the boy. If you watch it in freeze-frame the shattered glass turns white.
