Truck Driver Loses Control Ploughing into Group of People Celebrating
India, Kaanum Pongal festival turned tragic in Tamil Nadu’s Salem when a truck driver lost control and ploughed the vehicle into a group of people immersed in celebrations. The mishap took place in a broad daylight on January 16 when a large number of people had gathered to celebrate three-day Pongal celebrations. The truck came to a halt after hitting several people and destroying roadside shops. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in the accident. The harvest festival of ‘Pongal’ was celebrated with traditional fervour across Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry today with the bull-taming sport of Jallikattu and a host of other games pepping up the festive spirit. Though celebrated across urban and rural areas with salutations to the sun god and nature, it was more fun and zeal in the hinterland with a host of traditional games. |
