Re: Van Hit By Train

Update

15.06.2023 - Because the bar to close the road on the railway line malfunction, the lives of four men were almost lost after their vehicle was hit by a train. It is understood that the incident happened on Jalan Perumahan Kampung Anak Kinarut, Papar, Sabah on Wednesday. The anxious moment was also successfully recorded by a vehicle's dashboard camera (Dashcam) which was at the scene of the incident and uploaded on Lahad Datu Fm's Facebook page on Thursday.

According to the less than one-minute video, the road conditions are also relatively quiet. When trying to cross the railway track, there was no bar placed and the white Perodua Rusa type vehicle continued on its way. Luck was not on their side when a train suddenly came from the left.

However, the four men managed to jump out and save themselves. The sharing of a virtual citizen, Felix Austin said, the Perodua Rusa was dragged several hundred meters from the scene of the incident. Meanwhile, Papar District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said, in the incident at 6.05pm on Wednesday, the 42-year-old van driver was slightly injured while the other three passengers were not injured.

"The preliminary investigation found that the train was traveling from Sembulan to Beaufort. At the time of the incident, the train driver found a Perodua Rusa type van entered and stopped on the railway track. The train driver sounded the signal horn while approaching the area and tried to apply the brakes but failed to stop and subsequently hit the vehicle involved," he said in a statement on Thursday.

According to him, the train driver was only aware of the vehicle 20 meters ahead and caused the collision to be unavoidable.

"Further investigation at the scene of the incident found that the bar to close the road on the track was not working. However, there was a bar keeper at the location who was standing on the right side of the railway crossing hut where he could only stop vehicles passing from one lane. The driver the Perodua Rusa vehicle said that he did not realize that there was a train passing in the area and at the time of the incident he did not stop while approaching the railway line because the bars were not lowered or the line was not closed. While the driver was passing on the track, his car engine suddenly died and causing it to be unable to move before being hit by the train," he said.

Accordingly, the bar keeper was detained for further investigation under Section 337 of the Penal Code for causing injury by an act that endangers the life or safety of another person.

"People with information about this incident are also asked to contact the investigating officer of the Criminal Investigation Division of the District Police Headquarters (IPD), Inspector Wong Yew Zhung on the line.

Re: Van Hit By Train

It seems it would have be quicker to just accelerate off the tracks instead of exiting and trying to outrun the train

guy is useless as he could have raised his arm to make a stop sign for the van driver to see imo.
