well you know how electricity causes fire when it touches something like petrol, or it can cause explosions when it touches a room of gas for example. electrical items such as mobile phones or ipods can cause static electricity. if you then touch a metal item the electricity can "spark across" to the metal item. that spark can ignite the petrol really easily. |

I knew static electricity can ignite gas but I always thought the cell phone thing was an urban legend. Ive never noticed any static electricity coming from my cell.
