MADISON, Wis. Aug 18 2009 A state lawmaker was cited on Tuesday after he struck a bicyclist with his vehicle late Tuesday afternoon near the state Capitol.
State Rep. Fred Clark, D-Baraboo, was driving near the Capitol at Hamilton and Dayton when police said he ran a red light and hit the bicyclist.
Clark was cited and released by police. A spokesperson for Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan said Clark said the biker was a close friend of Clark's and the assemblyman was shaken up by the incident.
The bicyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Clark released a statement after the incident Tuesday.
"At this time, my first concern is for the well-being of the cyclist who was injured. What occurred was an accident, and my thoughts are with that person and his family," Clark said in the statement.
