School Bus Crashes into a Tree

An elderly roadside vegetable vendor fractured her shoulder, while two students suffered injuries to their hands after their school bus hit a vendor, before crashing into a nearby tree.

The mishap took place on the Kesnand-Wadebolai Road, off Pune-Ahmednagar highway, around 3.30pm on Monday.

Sitabai Dhore (70) was flung into the air by the bus and landed a few metres away.

She was rushed to a private hospital by local residents. The two students — one aged six in Class I and the other aged 12 in Class VI — were discharged after treatment.

Senior inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade of the Lonikand police said, “The bus driver said the steering wheel got jammed. We will get the bus examined by RTO experts to verify the claim. We have filed a case of rash and negligent driving. A CCTV camera captured the incident.”

Pune CP Retesh Kumaarr told TOI, “We will soon call a meeting of RTO officials, traffic police and school authorities to check all school buses and avert such incidents.”
