Re: Hong Kong - Worker Crushed By Crane

Video shows a truck being operated indoors when the crane's boom suddenly broke and hit a worker standing on the roof of the truck.

In response to the "Hong Kong 01" inquiry, Zhou Lianqiao, chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Registered Specialized Trade Unions in the Construction Industry, described similar accidents as rare.

It is estimated that the reason for the broken boom may be that the items being lifted were too heavy, hooked on the car body during the process, or due to aging of the machine parts.

The police said they had not received any reports of similar accidents recently.

A male worker was standing on the front of the truck and was controlling the boom to lift the items in the bucket. Unexpectedly, the boom suddenly broke and hit the male worker in the head from behind. The worker then left the roof of the car, and a person suspected to be wearing reflective clothing next to him also walked away from the scene.

Zhou Lianqiao described such accidents as rare, but since he could not see what items were being lifted, it was estimated that the reasons for the boom breaking included being too heavy, being hooked on the car body during the process, or aging parts.

He emphasized that even if the vehicle is regularly inspected, the driver should regularly check whether the machine parts are damaged, and a risk assessment should be done before starting the lifting process.

In addition, many cranes can be operated remotely, so workers should stand on the side Or operate the boom from a distance rather than standing underneath it.
