Re: Roller coaster cable snaps sending a 12yo boy and a man to hospital
On 16th September 2009, debris from a cable snap sprayed riders at around 80 MPH. An investigation by authorities, which concluded in April 2010, found fault with both Park and manufacturer, Switzerland-based Intamin AG. The maintenance instructions were unclear, which meant that the Park were to inspect the cable 6 monthly, as opposed to Intamins intention of monthly. In any event, the Park were 19 days late in their inspection of the cable at the time of the incident. According to the report, the snapped cable exhibited “gross amounts of fatigue” and the force of the accident sheared off 18 of the 20 magnets on the bottom of the coaster cars used for launching and braking. Ironically, another incident, involving an Intamin accelerator occurred in 2004 at sister park, Cedar Point in Ohio, on Top Thrill Dragster. In August 2011, the Park settled with the family of the 12 year old boy, whose knee and ankle were seriously injured in the incident. Kyle Wheeler underwent operations to repair muscle damage to his left leg and skin grafts. Although no disclosure of the extent of the compensation was made by either party, the medical costs alone exceeded $60,000 with a further $30,000 required in the future to remove scar tissue. ![]() ![]() Can't help but laugh tbh. Poor little cunt But 90,000 fucking dollars medical expenses?! How fucked is America? That shit would be free as a mo fo in the UK. Canada too.... and pretty much every other country with money tbh. Just sayin'. |
