Revving Car in Pothole Overturns and Plunges into Ravine
Brazil, A Fiat Uno, driven by a 52 year old man, got one of its wheels stuck in a pothole in the road and when he tried to get out the car rolled down and barreled down the street uncontrollably, and fell into a small ravine at the side of the road. Due to the impact of the fall, the man was trapped inside the vehicle, in a difficult-to-access position due to the slope of the terrain. The seriousness of the situation demanded a quick and coordinated response from the emergency teams to ensure the safety and effective rescue of the driver. To reach and rescue the victim, the local Fire Department had to assemble an elaborate system of ropes and pulleys. The complexity of the environment required the team to hoist the driver, already immobilized on a stretcher, from the bottom of the ravine to street level, demonstrating the skill necessary for the operation. After being removed from the accident site, the man received first aid from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) and was promptly taken to the hospital in Itajubá. He had fractures in one leg and vertebra, and will undergo surgery to treat the injuries. |
