I did a lot of dirt biking, but I resisted crossing over to road bikes. I did a lot of mountain twisties driving BMW 2002s. Not in Cali so my roads were empty.

OK. Actually, you're close. Not really much else to see.

1. Excessive speed
2. Excessive lean angle
3. Excessive body position
4. Excessive counter steer (going from upright to full lean too suddenly)
5. Failure to ride within limits imposed by traction and ground clearance)
6. "Red Mist" (trying to impress new friends with demonstration of skills)

Review the vid and notice how he snaps the bike into full lean with wanton disregard for his ground clearance limitation. He was showboating for his new acquaintance. Once he dug his side stand into the asphalt, the rear tire was levered off the ground. A crash was the expected result.

I got the feeling he was going too fast to maintain sustainable line through the curves. Thanks for explaining the bad riding techniques that were also at play.

Re: Racing Biker Hits Trees

Wow. Amazing he walked away from that. I've sustained more serious injuries going 10 mph on my 10-speed bicycle and hitting a guard rail.

Re: Racing Biker Hits Trees

The guy crashed at 50 mph and wound up wrapped around a tree, and his fellow rider asks him, "Are ya okay?"

He gets the award for the asinine question of the week.
