The driver put their self in jeopardy by moving forward to the front line. The protesters put themselves in harms way by creating a human blockade. Once the protesters started assaulting/attacking the motorist's vehicle-(protesters threw the first punch), the driver had only a few choices, retreat or plow ahead. The driver went into survival mode-fight or flight. The driver, surely fearing bodily harm and maybe even death, chose both. Mob justice got their asses kicked this time.

I think both are wrong. But I think the protesters are worse. You gotta be foolish to put yourself in danger like that.

I think people have the right to protest (this was over austerity cuts apparently) but they should do it in a peaceful way that doesn't massively impede on others going about their business. Even workers striking there is usually a contingency to allow business to continue but here they are literally stopping people getting past on a road. What if there was an emergency? Police should have cleared these morons immediately. The guy shouldn't have run people over but their behaviour was completely outrageous and I'm not surprised he snapped.
