What did he take? The video isn't clear enough. Was it a bag or jewellery?

Big risk for a phone! I know wages are low there but I still thought they'd aim for something more valuable if they're going to go through all of that, are the penalties harsh if they get caught?

Re: Philippines - Snatchers

i think they prefer that our police and people dont bother much when its only items like that get stolen and no one hurt. little things adds up to a bigger thing safely. rather than risk for bigger things but might also gets larger heat. Filipino and chinese mentality. tiny profits per item but acquire more in volume of items

Re: Philippines - Snatchers

not everyone here can afford branded phones. even i, who earn more than most my age here still have to think thrice if an item i like will likely cost me 2 months of earning.

That's true everywhere, if an item costs 2 months earnings we all have think seriously about it, be it a electronic device or vehicle.

2 months earnings is 2 months earnings...

Re: Philippines - Snatchers

Hmm fair enough, if the police won't pursue the matter I guess it makes more sense to steal something cheap. Still, by the time they try to sell the second hand phone they will probably get under $200USD (can't be bothered working out the amount in Philippine Pesos). If they split it and take $100 each (probably less) they could probably earn that in what? About a week over there with an unskilled labour job?

Yeah, I would never spend 2 months wages on a phone either! That is a lot of hours to put in and not a lot to show for it.
