The A533 Mersey Gateway Bridge is closed northbound following a multi-vehicle crash yesterday evening (Monday, August 17). Traffic monitoring site Inrix is reporting stationary traffic from the Bridgewater Expressway to the A557 Queensway.

Mersey Gateway said on Facebook that the bridge is currently closed northbound due to an "ongoing police-led incident".

Northbound traffic is being diverted off at Bridgewater Interchange and directed over the Silver Jubilee Bridge instead.

Mersey Gateway apologised for the disruption and urged motorists to allow extra time for their journeys.

Emergency Crews from Cheshire attended the scene.
