A detective was tailing the car that crashed into the storefront of a Southeast Portland board-game shop.
Shortly before 5 p.m., a state police detective spotted a possibly impaired driver headed westbound on Southeast Foster Road, and the detective began following the car.
State police said the detective requested assistance from Portland police to stop the car, but before assistance arrived, the vehicle's movement became erratic, so the detective flipped on the emergency lights of his unmarked car.
The suspect vehicle then made a U-turn, headed east on Foster Road and struck another car, police said. The detective turned, too, trying to keep an eye on the car as it sped off.
The vehicle then crashed into the Red Castle Games storefront.
The driver got out of the car and took off, but the detective caught up to him about 30 seconds later, police said. The detective took the suspect to the ground and Portland officers then assisted with the arrest.
The suspect was taken to OHSU Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police identified the man as 37-year-old Myles Jacob Nees of Southeast Portland.
Alcohol may be a factor in the incident, police said, and charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, marijuana possession and attempt to elude police are pending.
