I can't believe it didn't derail the train.

This is why there shouldn't be high-speed trains where vehicles can cross over. Anything high-speed should be either on elevated tracks, or have a fly-over where cars drive over them. Imagine those bullet trains in Japan with an idiot racing to cross the track ahead of the train, and it hitting him at 200-mph.
