Fatal Crash Involving State Trooper

Quote:
An accident report released by the North Carolina Highway Patrol shows that a state trooper was speeding before an accident that killed a woman near Rocky Mount.

According to the accident report, Trooper Arnold Sylvester Samuel was traveling at 53 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone when he slammed into the car driven by 59-year-old Maurilia Solis Leon. The report also showed Leon failed to yield the right of way.

The dashcam video that the NCHP released Monday showed Trooper Samuel driving north on Highway 301 and suddenly crashing into the driver's side of Leon's 2002 Dodge Stratus. Leon had pulled out in front of the trooper from the parking lot of a Golden Corral restaurant, the report
states.

The Patrol has stated that Samuel was not en route to a call at the time of the crash.

The trooper suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation showed both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor in the collision.

Re: Fatal Crash Involving State Trooper

Stupid old lady. If it's a 45 mph in any city I expect people to be going 60 when pulling out in traffic. The cop was speeding but that was a pretty dumb move.

Re: Fatal Crash Involving State Trooper

I dont know if its the same in the US as it is here in the UK. But if a police car is speeding and gets flashed by a speed camera, they instantly have to alert their control to the fact. Otherwise the system shows that they were speeding and they have to explain why they were driving that way.

Then again i assume the US doesnt have speed cameras every 5 feet like the UK does, if at all.

Re: Fatal Crash Involving State Trooper

He was speeding and she illegally pulled out in front. Both at fault.

This is one of the biggest things I hate about pigs, they always speed and break more laws then I can count.

Re: Fatal Crash Involving State Trooper

Stupidity on both sides, though even if the cop was doing the speed limit, she'd likely have karked it anyway since the impact was driver's side.
