Concrete Mixer Truck Plunges Down a U-turn Highway Bridge
Thailand. On April 3 at approximately 3:00 PM at kilometer 31 of the Bangna-Trat Highway in the Ban Rakat subdistrict of Samut Prakan province, east of Bangkok a white-and-red Hino ten-wheel concrete mixer truck was navigating a U-turn bridge when it lost control on a curve, crashed through the concrete barrier, and fell roughly 33 feet onto the express lane below. The truck was severely mangled, and its mixing drum detached upon impact. A red Toyota Yaris was traveling in the lane below at the exact moment of the fall. The truck driver, identified as Mr. Jom, age 61 was ejected from the vehicle during the fall and sustained critical injuries. Emergency responders from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation provided first aid before transporting him to a Hospital. The car driver was dentified as Mr. Jim, age 49 and despite his car sustaining heavy front-end damage from the truck and falling debris, he miraculously escaped with only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The crash blocked two inbound lanes toward Bangkok, leading to a temporary full closure of the road for wreckage removal and the cleanup of spilled cement. Local police are investigating the cause. Preliminary reports suggest the truck may have been unable to navigate the curve in time, though authorities are checking for potential mechanical failure or driver error. |

It feels like the first fail in the chain of those leading here lies in the term 'U-turn bridge', a setup bound to have people later thinking "Oh FUCK I forgot I'd be needing to turn sharply on this elevated road section". This is probably expected to happen, though: the outer curb/edge is just scuffed, looks like, built for just this kind of thing: truck crashed OVER, not really through. Could be a tad higher, though?
