Usually chemical tanks are lined with glass. But if they dented the side of the truck a few times, or there was damage to the nitric acid section, then it probably ate through into the next tank compartment. What you see at the end is SOME OTHER chemical shooting out through it's relief valve, from a tank BEHIND the nitric acid section tank. It must have been some low-reactive chemical, or there would have been a huge explosion. This was just like Mentos and Coca-Cola.

So would he survive in this scenario?

Can someone explain what nitric acid does on contact with the body or if breathed? I'm uncultured.

It supposedly is extremely caustic on flesh and can cause third-degree chemical burns. When I was a kid and had a chemistry set, my mother's bf sneaked some nitric acid (along with some sulfuric acid) home for me from his industrial printing shop. I saw all the movies with mad scientists and hapless but insane opera house composers getting turned into monsters by nitric acid mishaps but when I poured a little onto a wooden table as an experiement, expecting a great hissing of sound accompanied by acid vapor rising and a hole burning right through the table within 10 seconds, nothing happened but a stain and the only thing fuming about it was my mom. What I needed was the special Hollywood-brand alien acid for that
