Re: China - Nitric Acid Truck Explodes In Dudes Face
It looks like he was showered with the nitric acid. I imagine his death was terrible. With it sprayed all over him, it would have been like the Nazi in "Raiders Of The Lost Arc", with his body smoking and dissolving from the first moment of contact. He was probably blinded instantly, in incredible pain as his skin just melted away, and then he fell off the truck. I think he would have been better off being electrocuted. At least that's fast. Nitric acid is like battery acid, but 1000 times more potent. And then when he fell off the truck, he was laying in puddles of it. |

Re: China - Nitric Acid Truck Explodes In Dudes Face
Yours must have been a very weak mix. I have spilled droplets on my workbench, and it smokes and starts digging for China. It's VERY aggressive, and if all it did was leave a mark, then it had to have been seriously diluted. I wear nitrile gloves, and have never been burned by it, but I wouldn't want to ever find out. Applying baking soda and water would stop it after a while, but it took multiple applications, and I ran the stuff off the table into a 5 gallon bucket that also had baking soda and water in it. It was a mess. I pulled everything off the workbench and set it down on other places to clear the workbench. I think you can probably see it work on some Youtube videos. I remember when chemistry sets actually had REAL CHEMICALS in them. You could do some damage! |

Re: China - Nitric Acid Truck Explodes In Dudes Face
I can only imagine what chemistry sets for kids are like now; probably with nothing more potent than boric acid you soak your feet in. I had the most fun with things you could get to burn like eternal flame, usually sulfur mixed with potassium purple (not the real name but it was purple and made a pretty purple flame). Then my brother gave me a box of lab chemicals he stole from Clark University when he was a student there. He drew Skull and Crossbones on the labels of the more deadly ones so I'd get the picture. One was silver nitrate (I think) and it had CAUSTIC written on it. I made a solution out of it, spilled some on my hand, and I had a big brown patch between thumb and forefinger and my hand smelled like potatoes for a week. There was another bottle of a bright orange powder that had Mercury something on it. My brother said "If you accidentally swallow some, you will die a lingering, slow death that takes months to die." Being a clueless kid, it's a miracle I didn't accidentally chemically dismember my member with that shit. |

Re: China - Nitric Acid Truck Explodes In Dudes Face
tbh, I would never trust China and its CCP-controlled news media when it comes to reporting the number of casualties in deadly or non-deadly accidents. I'm sorry but that looked fatal for the driver. A correction I made above to my earlier post was that the solution I accidentally spilled on my hand as a kid monkeying around with chemicals was silver nitrate (caustic), not potassium nitrate (simple saltpeter that you could probably take a bath in with no ill effects). My hand looked like this for a week afterwards (see photo below, courtesy of wikipedia). Imagine what the nitric acid I had could do? |
