Chicago: Deadly Crash Due to Evading Police
In the footage, a Chicago police unit pulls over a Hyundai Sonata in the 1400 block of South Michigan around 8 p.m. Sunday. As the officers step out of their car and walk toward the Hyundai, its driver begins to make a U-turn across the traffic lanes. Midway through the turn, another car speeds into camera range and slams into the driver’s door. CWBChicago reported Monday morning that our sources indicated that the Hyundai was struck by a vehicle that was speeding away from officers who began to follow it near Roosevelt Road. The 22-year-old driver of the Hyundai, K.G of Broadview, is dead. One source said that officers found ammunition and ammunition magazines in the vehicle’s wreckage. It was not yet known if weapons were also found. K.G’s two passengers, an 18-year-old woman, and a 21-year-old man, were taken in fair condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Stroger Hospitals, respectively. The car that struck him was driven by an 18-year-old man. He was taken to Stroger in fair condition. Video recorded from a nearby high-rise showed Chicago cops handcuffing him after he climbed out of the wreckage. A CPD traffic crash report identifies him as a man who is a college freshman and was a standout athlete during his CPS high school career. We are withholding his name because he has not been charged with wrongdoing. Also injured were a 32-year-old woman, a 13-year-old girl, and a 14-year-old boy in a Honda SUV struck by at least one of the other vehicles. They were taken to Stroger in fair condition, a CPD statement said. Sources told CWBChicago on Sunday night that the driver of the Infiniti sped away from officers who pulled up behind him on Roosevelt Road moments before the collision. Chicago police officers were following the Infiniti without their emergency lights activated when it collided with K.G Hyundai, according to the sources, who cited Chicago police video. Chicago police have not announced any charges. The Major Accident Investigations Unit is handling the case. The sources who spoke with CWBChicago said the department was also conducting an intense internal investigation of the crash and the events leading up to it. |

Re: Chicago: Deadly Crash Due to Evading Police
So he got struck trying to flee the cops by another guy also fleeing the cops? What proportion of Chicago isn’t on the run from the law?
