I must be missing something because I can't understand how the car would be at fault. Surely the cyclist is for speeding and not watching the flow of traffic/intersections? The car was turning and was in the right to do so, the cyclist is wrong. Unless traffic rules differ greatly in my country.

Exactly, the car was turning. Vehicles turning have to give way to those going straight on - otherwise stuff like that happens!

Although not entirely the car drivers fault due to the speed of the bike and the fact that it didn't have any lights on.
