75 Year Old Man on a Bicycle Gets Hit by a Car
Brazil, 75-year-old cyclist, R A L, was miraculously saved after being brutally hit by a silver Volkswagen Gol. The driver fled after the incident. The man crossed the street diagonally and the vehicle collided with him at full speed. He suffered head trauma, got surgery but was saved. |

He didn't suddenly dart out into the road, or appear out of nowhere from between parked cars, he was already well into the street and the car and plenty of time to stop when the driver just barreled into him.He didn't even try to avoid him or slow down. Some people shouldn't drive. Glad the old guy survived.

I disagree. I city-biked for years and know how to claim travel lanes. That was a suicide bonehead move by the bicyclist. This pic shows the bicyclist was on a slow roll still swinging one leg around, entering the travel lane 10-ft away from the oncoming car going about 30mph. That entry did not allow reaction time for the car to brake, let alone to also spot a bicyclist wearing black with no lights at night in the rain. If a car pulled into the travel lane with that same speed and lack of lead time, the it would 1. get rear ended, and 2. be cited for reckless driving if a cop was watching. The bicyclist is damn lucky he cartwheeled and did not skull crack.  · |

Another thing that bike rider did that irritated the hell out of me was his lame pushoff start, as if he was Mary Poppins leisurely rolling along lake side. To claim a vehicle lane, a bicyclist should start out feet-on-pedals, full grip, lean forward, spinning like a MF to get up to speed in a few seconds. All that after checking for traffic speeds and gaps.
