28 Meter Tall, 90 Year Old, Tree Falls on Hood of Passing Perodua Ativa
A family of three, a 66-year-old man, his 68-year-old wife and their 9-year-old granddaughter, narrowly escaped death after a 28-meter-tall 90 year old tree completely crushed the front section of their Perodua Ativa. Helpful passersby rushed to the scene and pulled the trapped family out of the vehicle before emergency services arrived. All three sustained injuries and were treated at the local Hospital. According to City Council, a structural evaluation revealed several severe underlying issues that caused the failure. The tree suffered from 30% root rot. A large internal hollow occupied 40% of its trunk base. Severe, chronic soil compaction and a heavily limited rooting space left the century-old giant highly unstable. |
