He probably could have just walked out if he had stayed calm.
The bear wasnt interested in him and zoo animals are sick of people in general...and they are not hungry(assuming its a proper zoo).
It's the sudden movement from the side that triggers automatic attack/defence response for wild animals.
My previous house cat did the same thing. He was calm and purred nicely, until he saw my hand coming from the corner of his eye...then...instant pounce and mauling.

The freaking (pen/jail/enclosure/cage) wasn’t proper, it’s a sure bet that the bear’s diet wasn’t proper.

Take a close look at the lovely luscious green tropical paradise enclosure.
Would anyone want to PLAY with those TOYS?

That guy who the Righteous Bear turned into a bag of pulverized bones and mushed innards was probably just some poor sucker doing a job to make a living but it's always nice to see zoo animals making humans pay. Zoos are a blight on humanity, they should all be shut down and their owners shot in the dick.

Never turn your back or run away from a bear, because it automatically triggers its hunting instinct. Same with big cats, big apes and wolves. Dude should've hugged the wall, opened his jacket and spread it like Batman to appear bigger than he really is. Then slowly shimmy away while facing the bear.

Something similar happened in the UK few years ago with a Tiger, the young girl keeper must have left a door open or unsecured, A visitor looked round, just to see her being dragged lifeless by the neck along the ground, i bet she cannot get that image out her head..
