Legalizing the drugs will cut down the profit they make by a fuck load BUT its way way beyond that now. Cartels like the Zetas and the Caballeros Templarios make most of their profit from kidnapping human trafficking and extortion .
For every acre of land you own you get a quota for every business you own you get a quota ect ect
It's more than drugs now some cartels have gone as far as organ trafficking !in conclusion, Yes legalizing dope will cut down on their profit but they are in to deep into The malicious life!

They tax everyone for everything
They make most of the money that way especially since agriculture is huge in this region!

That's the truth. Even IF drugs were legalized, that wouldn't make matters any better for this entire situation. Drugs would then be heavily taxed, this in turn would cause the cartels (who were even quaint enough to still be involved in the drug trade) to compete with rival cartels in taxation, AND this would push them to find other ways of finding creative ways of making illegal money. ie; sex trafficking, prostitution, kidnapping, ransoms, etc. What a clusterfuck.......
