Re: Young Russian Woman Kills Herself Via Decapitation by Train
The name Blagoveshchensk comes from the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, after which the city was named when it was founded as a military outpost of Ust-Zeysky in 1858. Initially, the place where the city is now located was called Ust-Zeyskaya stanitsa. On May 9 (old style) 1858, Archbishop Innokenty founded the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the stanitsa, and in honor of this event the stanitsa was renamed Blagoveshchensk.
