the fact is, there is a difference between stealing to get by and pulling a weapon on a person. he didnt get shot because he was stealing... he got shot because him and his accomplice stole and threatened the lives of somebody else. tragic situation, i agree, but what about the people he stole from? they arent to blame for the spread of capitalism... they were, however, in charge of their own safety and the off duty officer protected himself.

I think you're missing the point. It's not that the boy shouldn't have been shot in that situation.

I doubt many of us could think of a solution other than shooting someone in a situation such as that.

The problem is that everyone is putting the blame on the kid. Apparently the kid had a choice of where he was born, what culture he was born into, what influences were going to determine his life choices.

NOBODY has demonstrated that kind of free will existing.

So the point is to get to the root cause of the problem rather than advocating this surface notion of blame with crossed fingers in the hope the current system won't make us the next victims of a situation like this.

I agree...when an impoverished man rapes a child, I think we should ponder, "Did this pedofile have a bad background?" "What was this pedo's ancestral background?" "Was the pedo unemployed?"

Based upon x amount of findings, and meeting y amount of research, then z amount of results should mean that some child rapists should go free b/c they have a tough background, b/c he didnt' have a choice where he was born, someone bullied him, or the bad lifestyle he grew up in.

According to this logic, then no one is accountable and everyone is smart.

What he did was wrong, he knows it. He didn't feel the full gravity of it at the time, but I'm sure he will. He'll either wind up in prison for life or killed by somebody else. People are a product of their environment. I was to an extent, but I'd draw the line at below kill an innocent old man just trying to provide for his family.
