A young man and woman were caught calmly sitting on subway tracks in Downtown Manhattan early Sunday before being fatally struck, law-enforcement sources said.

The pair — a 24-year-old man from Sayreville, NJ, and 24-year-old woman from Dayton, NY — were on the rails near the Spring Street station shortly before 3:15 a.m. when a southbound No. 4 train slammed into them, killing both.

There is no indication that man and woman had been pushed or fell onto the tracks. Investigators are looking into whether the pair may have been drinking beforehand. (Or maybe it was a suicide pact.)

Girl went to react last second instinctively and move out of the way. Now the driver has to live with guilt and the operators the images of two mangled corpses. Life is not that bad people! Buy a god damn motorcycle if you’re miserable!

Were they sitting there on their phones? Regardless, sitting there

My father use to do that Emergency service NYPD. He said a lot of times people would still be alive. He said one time he crawled under a subway car because this woman jumped and found her with her legs wrapped around her head cut in half so he told his partner "She's dead" and she opened her eyes and said "i'm not dead" then they tried to move her and she saw her body and let out this little scream and poof she died.

When they are washing the body board from a fire hydrant, just so they can strap it to the back of the ambulance for later cleanup, so they don't have to carry it inside the vehicle, you KNOW it was a bad situation!

Authorities say they are still investigating after two people were struck and killed by a train at Manhattan's Spring Street station early Sunday morning. According to police sources, a man and woman were spotted sitting on the roadbed at around 3:14 a.m. as a southbound 4 train pulled into the station. The motorman attempted to apply the emergency brakes; however, it was too late, and the train struck both individuals. When emergency services arrived, they discovered a 24-year-old woman and an unidentified man in his 20s under the train. EMS pronounced them both dead at the scene. The identity of the female is being withheld pending proper family notification. Police sources say it is currently unclear why the pair were sitting on the tracks. The agency confirmed that the deaths took place but did not provide a statement.

I understand one person feeling suicidal but both of them?. no woman could make me take my life because she wanted to take her own.
