Reminds me of that story I heard (probably on DR) where a western reporter in Afghanistan after the Taliban were driven out the first time notices an afghan wife walking 10 feet in front of her husband instead of the other way around. The reporter, heartened by what he sees, asks the husband behind the wife, "Is this a show of female empowerment now that the Taliban has left?" The husband looks over at the reporter and answers, "No. Landmines."  |
