Re: Worker Jumps into a Steel Melting Furnace
I've *heard that it's not quite instant, as the vapors from water and fat in the body momentarily create an insulating barrier between the body and the heat source (to memory that was from a youtube clip that asked 'what would happen if you fell into an active volcano?')

Re: Worker Jumps into a Steel Melting Furnace
That was cool as hell. Reminded me of science class. “The reason you add acid to water is that if you add water to acid, the first drop of water reacts immediately, and the heat might be high enough to boil the water instantly, which could spray acid out of the container.” I’d say he was pretty much vaporized in seconds. |

Re: Worker Jumps into a Steel Melting Furnace
A friend of mine who works at a furnace said about 2 full seconds of feeling it. He said the nerve endings would be destroyed and the lungs exploded after about 2.5 seconds. Not sure if this is true/accurate, but sounds reasonable to me. |

Re: Worker Jumps into a Steel Melting Furnace
Molten metal is scary hot. The determination (courage?) some of the suicidal people have on Documenting Reality is impressive. Putting your head on the tracks to be severed by a freight train and jumping into a blast furnace, count me out...
