Re: Women on Fire in Front of Presidential Building Bulgaria
Well first of all, when you want to extinguish a fire, you need to smother it. If he had worked in unison with the other bystanders and piled their materials on together they probably could have been successful. The real idiot is the one that came up and started 'fanning' the flames. Every time there is a person on fire someone decides that fanning the flames with oxygen is a good way to extinguish it. It's rare to see people actually trying to smother the fire. Most people are not very intelligent though so it's not surprising. Although the particular article of clothing that you are commenting on was a blue vest that looked like nylon and was probably full of flammable stuffing. It's not a very good material for extinguishing fire as it combusts almost immediately. If someone had a leather jacket or even a jean jacket it would be a much better material to use than the vest. That guy gets a 0 for his efforts because he made the fire worse. You can see some of the other material that people were piling on the fire were actually working better to smother it.

Re: Women on Fire in Front of Presidential Building Bulgaria
One guy had a water fire extinguisher which is the best option for this scenario. Another guy had a chemical fire extinguisher which is a horrible option considering the wounds would be contaminated with siliconized sodium bicarbonate which is basically baking powder and salt. I'm don't really know if that would be concerning for infection but I bet it would hurt like hell. Who knows though. Maybe it would still be the better option if it was the only one you had and it saves your life. Salt on a burn? Then again, if the fire was started with a flammable liquid, perhaps the water extinguisher isn't a good idea and the chemical extinguisher would be the best option. |

Re: Women on Fire in Front of Presidential Building Bulgaria
She was already unconscious when they sprayed her with extinguishers, so it doesn't make much difference, although water extinguishers just spread the fire, when dealt with burning oil/gasoline/kerosene or similar, it just drives the flame away from the target and lights up everything else around it, while the flammable stuff still burning but lead to somewhere else. The best choice would be a foam extinguisher. |
