Re: The Woman Who Jumped to Her Death
Yeah, in some of the videos it's almost like a game to see if they can fill it up quick enough before the person just decides "game over, you tried but... better luck next time I think those inflatable rafts you see on boats use built-in nitrogen or carbon dioxide canisters to auto inflate the thing in seconds. Someone needs to make big versions of those for EMS. |

Re: The Woman Who Jumped to Her Death
Did she hit something on the way down (2nd vid)? Can't really tell because the person who shot the vid momentarily had her out of frame as she dropped, and there's an audible "thud"-like sound at that point too... |

Re: The Woman Who Jumped to Her Death
That's a good idea. They could have the regular blowers, and use them when they have time, but also have emergency canisters that they could use when seconds count. With an emergency canister, when they saw she was about to go, they could pull the lanyard, and have it inflated by the time she reached it. That would be more expensive, but at least they would have a chance at saving some lives. I am willing to bet that she changed her mind the second she actually jumped. I saw a film on the suicides from the Golden Gate bridge, and when they interviewed the few survivors, they ALL said they changed their mind as soon as they let go from the bridge. |

Re: The Woman Who Jumped to Her Death
~ She obviously looked distraught on the phone, & was informing whoever was on the other line that she was ready/threatening to jump. ~ And, obviously, she thought the damn thing was an insta-inflatable rescue mattress, so she jumped. ~ Then to top it off, 'or' bottom it out, the damnest thing is, it inflated at the outer edges first, not the center, despite using two air pumps. ~ Dumbass attention whore missed her window of opportunity prematurely by assuming she knew about how those trick rescue mattresses work. |

Re: The Woman Who Jumped to Her Death
~ One way would be to use fast air deployment tanks for the center section & the air pumps for the outer edges. ~ Most of the rescue mattresses nowadays inflate the outer edges first, then the center mattress, ironically, to catch the person, as in this case. Bummer. |

Re: The Woman Who Jumped to Her Death
Well, in the center they could put an inflatable anvil. Just as they think: "Uh-oh! This is really gonna hurt!", they land on it with a plop, and discover it's just inflatable and covered with black felt.
