A man charged with first-degree murder in a midday attack on the CTA Red Line last week was denied bail by a Cook County judge Saturday.

Arthur S. Jones, 29, of the 5300 block of South Carpenter Street in Chicago, was not in court for the bond hearing before Judge Laura Marie Sullivan; in the aftermath of Thursday's killing, Jones was taken into custody and admitted to St. Bernard Hospital for treatment of injuries and a psychological evaluation, authorities said.

During the hearing, prosecutors said Jones stabbed Jessica Renee Hampton, 25, of West Englewood to death on a southbound Red Line train near 47th Street in what authorities called a domestic dispute.

Before the violence erupted Thursday afternoon, Jones and Hampton moved several times to different train cars, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Bob Groebner said in court.

At one point, Groebner said, the two were sitting facing each other across the aisle and he asked her: "Are you going to have my baby?"

Hampton shook her head no and he got up and began repeatedly stabbing her until she fell to the floor, authorities allege.

He then dragged her body and slashed her neck several times, authorities say.

The fatal attack — a rarity on CTA trains — took place as the train was pulling into the station.

Passengers fled in horror, according to witnesses. After inflicting the fatal wounds, the attacker stood over the woman and said something, then walked off the train, according to one witness.

Officers took Jones into custody on the train platform shortly afterward and the knife used in the killing was recovered, authorities said.

First and Foremost I send my deepest condolences to Jessica Hampton family as i sit here and look at my timeline it hurts to read everybody opinion and perspective on this situation i can understand that but you all on the outside looking in it's always two size to a story. My cousin been dating this young lady for 6 months they met each other at a halfway house ok everything is going well until he start hearing rumors about Jessica having that package/HIV so that rub him the wrong way so that got into so my cousin was trying to move forward with his life and tried to move on with a new young lady who was also living at the halfway house and she shut him down because he was known to be messing around with Jessica the girl with the package so some how like all relationships he tried to get back with her because he didn't believe the rumors so a little bit after that she told him she may be pregnant a couple of days before she was murdered my cousin went to the hospital to get checked out to see if he had it because they been going hard for 6 months strong the test came back positive :( so in his mind he is confused he is in shock so the night before they had got into it thats why you see the post of him saying the things he was saying cause he figure if she was pregnant and didn't know she had it then that was something they both had to live with. So the next day she linked up with him and met him where he normally worked everyday selling loose cigarettes and DVDs on the CTA train they end up arguing and yes people heard them talk about a baby but what he asked her was this are you having my baby she said no then he ask her DO YOU HAVE HIV?
