Woman Set Herself on Fire and Died After Inlaws Beat and Tortured Her
India, 35 yr old A. T. was first married to Akhilesh Tiwari who she divorced to marry “Asif” & converted to Islam and changed her name to become “A.”. Asif went to Saudi in connection with his job leaving her with his family. A. burnt herself because allegedly A's family was beating & torturing her. Her evil mother-in-law chased her out of the house. Yesterday, she tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire without getting justice in front of the Legislative Assembly. According to doctors at the hospital, she had suffered over 85 percent (exaggerated i.m.o) burn injuries and she died on Wednesday night. A senior police official said that the matter was under investigation and it was not yet known if it was a case of ‘love jihad’. The police have arrested Congress leader Alok Prasad, son of former Governor of Rajasthan Sukhdev Prasad, for allegedly provoking A. to immolate herself.  |

Some of the death-by-burning events are so strange to me. The person seems to be fully alert and aware and they go on to die much later, after it's all over. It doesn't seem like the injuries are that severe. I remember seeing one video a long time ago where a girlfriend set her boyfriend on fire resulting in her own immolation. He puts himself out rather quickly and even continues to go help her and walks around as if nothing is wrong. He goes on to die later that day. It's so strange to me. |

I was told by relatives who are nurses that most of the severe damage in fires is in the lungs. Even if the person is not burned that badly, the lungs are very delicate and begin to load up with liquid from the fire damage, and that is what causes a death in people who otherwise don't look that bad off. Maybe some doctors or nurses here will elucidate further.
