Woman Fatally Hit at Crosswalk by Intoxicated Motorist
Russia, A 38 year-old man, driving a Nissan Terrano, hit a 55 year-old woman who was crossing an unregulated pedestrian crossing. According to the traffic police, the reckless driver fled from the scene of the accident but was detained later on. He testified. According to preliminary data, the driver was intoxicated.  |

Another: Russia. A 29 year-old woman driving an Audi hit a mother and a daughter when they were crossing the road using the crosswalk. As a result the teenage daughter died when she was transported to the Hospital.

They must have never crossed the street before. Just because the FIRST lane stopped, doesn't mean the SECOND lane stopped. You have to look at each one as you go.

The mother and daughter would probably also be OK if the driver hadn't veered left out of their lane. Target fixation? There was a NASCAR video 10 or 15 years ago where 3 or 4 drivers display awesome driving skills avoiding a broken down car in the middle of the track. Then, the a car plows directly into the stopped car and kills the driver of the stopped car. Yep, the driver of the killer car was a woman race car driver. Some thought it was target fixation, others said penis envy...

The only place I know where pedestrians have the right of way all the time, is on military bases. Where the vehicle has to stop for everyone crossing the roadway. And you can’t exactly speed like a maniac on base, so the majority of the time, vehicles are driving the speed limit or less. Not the same outside of bases. Pedestrians do not have the right of way. Yield but stay alert, to the vehicles unless it’s at a traffic light thing crosswalk. But in Russia they have it that pedestrians have the right of way, and it makes no sense. I have watched many of their vids capturing trucks and cars unable to brake/stop in time before hitting those on the crosswalk.   |
