The revolver worked, the guy with the auto pistol had to stay behind, rack the slide and fire again to get his single shot into her head. I think the revolver is a Brazilian Taurus, I had a Taurus with the exact same wooden grips.

..Never buy another Taurus..they are crap..I had one and my brother had one, both had the timing off with the cylinder, they wouldnt rotate..junk as we lived in Alaska and carried a pistol when we fished.

It does look a hell of a lot like a Beretta, though, for good reason - it pretty much is. In 1974, Beretta won a contract to provide firearms to the Brazilian army, the caveat being the guns had to be manufactured in Brazil, by Brazilians. So Beretta built a factory. In 1980, when the contract was up, Beretta sold the factory to Taurus. Part of the deal was that Taurus got to keep all the machinery, tooling, schematics, and drawings in the factory. Beretta simply got up and walked away, leaving everything.

Now, naturally, when you have Beretta tooling and Beretta schematics, you're basically going to build Beretta clones.

What I never understood was why. Why would Beretta leave all those schematics and especially new pistol designs? At least 2 new Taurus models that came out back in the 80's were actually Beretta designs that Taurus decided to build.

As it turns out, because Brazil made them. They literally would not let the Beretta factory foreman get on a plane and leave the country until they verified they left everything in place for Taurus.

I agree. I've had two Taurus revolvers, a .357 mag 669 model, and a .22lr 9 shot revolver, both stainless steel. The .22lr was garbage, horrible trigger action and often wouldn't rotate the cylinder or fire. It also clogged with lead and was extruding bullets after 500 rounds, I never was able to remove the lead buildup in the bore. I sold it to a gun store for $70 and was happy with that to be rid of it.

They have ostensibly become vastly more respectable at present. Even after 30 years, they
still couldn't ever quite figure out the American market, and the company was floundering. So they brought in an American CEO and an American engineering team, whose first order of business was addressing the fact that - as you say - their guns were shittier than ever due do manufacturing standards being...somewhat lacking.

The first model that was developed by the new team the "Curve" - a $200 concealed carry .380 with a built-in laser sight, flashlight, and a grip bowed out to the side - has been a resounding success. It's a dumb gimmick, but that's what you need to make it in America.
