In the Zabaikalsky Krai, a KAMAZ truck fell through the ice together with the driver while crossing the Kaunda River. This was reported on the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Zabaikalsky Krai.

“On the evening of November 18, the driver of a KamAZ, crossing the Kuanda River in an unequipped place 7 kilometers from the village of the same name, fell through the ice together with the vehicle,” the department reported.

It is reported that in winter the Kaunda River is the only road between Buryatia and the Trans-Baikal Territory, so drivers drive on the ice.

The footage shows that the vehicle almost made it across the road, but the ice gave in and collapsed under the weight of the KamAZ. It is known that the truck was driven by a 38-year-old man. He was taken from the water the next day.

Earlier, it turned out that in November 2024, Russians spent 18 thousand rubles on preparing their cars for the winter season, which is 16% more than a year ago.

According to experts, the amount increased, among other things, due to more active renewal of the car fleet in the country.

I remember on the History channel show "Ice Road Truckers" they explained why it's dangerous to drive too fast on the ice road. Once you get over a certain speed it creates a bow wave in front of the truck in the water under the ice, and that deformation is what breaks the ice. Slow and steady is the way.

Too right, that didnt even look like a dry suit, that waters got to be 1 or 2 c and even a 7ml wetsuit aint gonna keep you warm for long. I can remember making that mistake going diving in a quarry in november here in the UK. As soon as I hit 20 meters and the cold water in that layer below it it gave me the shock of my life.
